“I’ve got a cartoon today about the lawsuit and massive payout of $US 80,000,000 (or $AU 100,000,000) from Warner Bros. to J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate.
“The estate claims WB overstepped what their merchandising rights allowed them to do by making apps and video games.
They reckon Warner Brothers has been doing so without permission, because when WB bought the rights to make basically every kind of merchandise in 1969, neither of those existed yet.
“They also said that Warner Brothers was basically sullying the brand by putting them on poker machines.”
